The Toronto Tempo will finish their inaugural regular season without Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow after both were ruled out for the remainder of the year following injuries suffered against Portland.

Two important roles disappear at once

Sykes had only recently returned from a lengthy foot-related absence before another foot injury ended her season. Morrow, acquired during the season, suffered a knee injury and will also miss the remaining schedule. The losses come on top of other availability problems that have repeatedly forced Toronto to reshape its rotation.

Expansion teams need evaluation time

For an expansion team, injuries do more than alter a box score. They take away evaluation minutes from combinations the organization hoped to study. Toronto now has to learn about different players and different lineups than originally planned.

The final games still have value

That does not make the remaining games meaningless. They can reveal who handles a larger role responsibly, which bench players can defend without constant help and which pieces still fit once the roster is healthier next season.
