Minnesota’s Fit Test Starts Between the Highlights
The value of two creators depends on how the other three players fit.
LaMelo Ball’s arrival lets Minnesota move Anthony Edwards back to shooting guard.
The following is independent Hardwood Highlights analysis.
A second creator changes the timing
Two players who can initiate an attack give a coach options, but the possession still needs an order. One can force the first rotation and the other can attack the opening it leaves. That sequence has more promise than simply alternating isolated attempts while teammates wait.
Include the other three
Watch the screen setter and the players away from the ball. Their positions can clear a driving lane or accidentally close it. When the first pass arrives, the next action should already be available. Shared creation works best when the whole lineup understands where the advantage is supposed to travel.
Define the defensive bill
An offensive partnership also creates questions at the other end. How does the team handle switches, protect the paint and finish possessions with a rebound? The useful early evaluation combines both ends of the court. A beautiful passing sequence matters, but the lineup must also recover, communicate and prevent an easy answer on the next trip.
